The Basic Concepts

Support -

To get started, is good to understand the basic concepts of the portal. These are:

  1. MonitoringStations. These are the products of devices which provide the measurement data. This can be e.g. the NMS+ or a Samurai channel, a weather station or other devices.
  2. Measurementpoints. These are actual physical places where one intent to measure. They have a number of characteristics, like location and an association with a linked monitoring station and or weather stations.  There is no limit to the number of measurement points. Measurement data can only be viewed when a monitoring station is coupled to a measurement point.
  3. Groups, Groups is an important and fundamental concept, especially as also the access rights of measurement data are tightly coupled to groups. Groups can have a start and end time. Groups may overlap. Groups where the end date is past become historic groups. They serve as an archive of the projects you have done in the past. Groups can be hidden (made invisible to the users). There is one special group, called the ALL group all measurement points are automatically added to this group.
  4. Users. Users are persons who have access rights to the portal. A Role is assigned to a User. A have link to groups. Access is only possible to groups which are linked to the User. A User may or may not receive notifications.
  5. Role. A Users is assigned a Role. A role defines what the “Role” of the user is. Depending on the role the user has access to certain configuration data and visualisation of that data. With the Role one can restrict the access to the measurement data.
  6. Views. These are different presentations of the measurement data or configuration data. E.g. Map view, Graphic view, Measurement points. The role defines which views can be used.
  7. Compliance criteria. These are a set of rules applied to the data and the result is either True or False. They are normally used to define the threshold of a noise level to generate a notification or visualise it on the screen.
  8. Notifications. Notifications are generated when a compliance criterion is exceeded. They are notified to the users enable to receive these notifications by SMS or email.
  9. Gateways. Gateways are devices which convert the wireless interface of NMS+ stations to the Internet either via fixed internet (Ethernet) or via mobile Internet (2G,3G,4G).
