Munisense uses high-quality Lenovo tablets as display units to visualize sound levels measured by the HorecaSense sound meter. These tablets are equipped with a Li-ion battery, which, like all devices with a Li-ion battery, requires careful maintenance. On rare occasions, there is a possibility that the Li-ion battery may swell, caused by chemical reactions within the battery. These reactions are accelerated by overheating, overcharging, or prolonged exposure to high temperatures, which can damage the battery and even pose safety risks. Below are some tips to minimize the risk of battery swelling:
Tips to Extend the Lifespan of the Li-ion Battery
-
Monitor Charge Levels
- Avoid Full Charging: Constantly charging a battery to 100% can shorten its lifespan and increase the risk of swelling. Ideally, keep the charge level between 20% and 60%.
- Use Battery Protection Mode: Tablets with Android version 12 (released in 2021) and newer feature a battery protection mode that allows you to limit the charging level. Use this mode if the tablet remains plugged in continuously. For tablets delivered before October 1, 2024, this feature is not enabled by default. To activate it, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Protection Mode or refer to the Lenovo tablet’s manual.
- Note Older Models: Tablets older than 2021 or using an Android version lower than 12 do not have this feature. For these models, it is recommended to discharge the battery regularly (once a week) to at least 20%. This can be done, for instance, by unplugging the tablet from the charger after use.
-
Avoid Excessive Heat
- Protect the Tablet from Heat: Do not leave the tablet in direct sunlight or in environments with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.
-
Avoid Excessive Cold
- Although heat is more harmful to Li-ion batteries, extremely low temperatures can also damage the battery. Avoid using or charging the tablet in cold conditions (below 5 degrees Celsius).
-
Long-Term Storage
- Store at a Moderate Charge Level: When the tablet is not used for an extended period, charge it to approximately 50% and store it in a cool environment. This helps keep the battery chemistry stable and extends its lifespan.
What to Do in the Event of a Swollen Battery
A swollen battery can be identified by a thickening of the tablet or if the screen starts separating from the casing. If you observe this, the tablet should be repaired or replaced. Please contact Munisense for assistance. Munisense provides a 2-year warranty on tablets.
Note: Follow these guidelines carefully to ensure the safety and longevity of the Lenovo tablets.
