For example you might see an LAeq graph like this:
A nice quiet background level and then suddenly a number of spikes. When analyzing the audio you are of course interested in what those peaks are but when listening to the audio stream you notice that the peaks are not recorded.
(Visualization from Audacity, amplified)
From this view it looks like the same for the time 'before' the peaks and 'during' the peaks. You might think your device is broken.
However: when we look at the spectral data it looks like this:
The peaks are caused by very high (6 kHz) sounds, most likely small bird (which also matches the 'early morning' time). The audio stream is recorded with a sample frequency that is too low for these high sounds. In general anything up to 4 kHz is clearly audible in the stream, anything above that might not be recorded properly.
In this case nothing is wrong with your device and everything is as expected. If you ever feel the need for a higher sample frequency setting please contact our support and we can discuss your options.
